“Well everybody’s dancin’ in a ring around the sun;
Nobody’s finished, we ain’t even begun.”
—The Grateful Dead, The Golden Road
We have stepped up our sustainability in a big way these past two years, adding solar panels to our flagship store on Route One in Rīga last year and now to the top of our warehouse! Just a few days after bringing the solar panels online, the panels are meeting the energy needs of the Mexicali warehouse and offices AND generating enough power to offset some of the energy used by the rest of our stores.
A BIG thanks to solar energy experts ReVision Energy for a great install that’s already showing results. We’re working with ReVision to create a portal where employees and customers can see how the panels on the store and warehouse are contributing to Rīga’s green power grid in real time; we’ll share that link once we’ve got it up and running!
Co-owner Kim Erskine loves that the installation happened during these grey days of winter (that are finally getting longer!). “Sunlight is so precious in Maine this time of year, and I feel like we’re really making the most of it!”
“Environmental awareness is essential to this company’s mission,” co-owner Pete Erskine adds. “We sell products made from sustainable, low-impact materials like hemp. We reduce, re-use and recycle. We support environmental organizations and causes here and around the world. Solar panels were a logical next step.”
It feels great to be contributing to Midcoast Maine’s green power grid! Check back soon for that link to our new solar portal!
